Townhouse, Private Residence • Chelsea, London
Completed, 2025
When we first encountered the property, the house was in a state of severe deterioration, with its structure fragile and its interiors long neglected. What followed became one of our most meticulous and historically sensitive transformations to date. The building was carefully stripped back to its bones, revealing the original framework and craftsmanship beneath. From there, the reconstruction was carried out with absolute fidelity to period methods: lime plaster in place of modern materials, traditional wooden walls instead of brick partitions, and a steadfast dedication to honouring the home’s earliest construction techniques.
Every surviving detail of historic value was restored with precision — from door frames to cornices to architectural trims — each one reconceived to reflect its original character while undergoing the careful restoration required to bring it back to life. The house now reads as a seamless continuation of its past, respectful of the centuries that shaped it.
The renovation also introduced new layers of liveability without compromising the Grade II-listed guidelines. A beautifully integrated loft conversion now accommodates two additional bedrooms, bringing a contemporary functionality into the historical envelope. At the rear, the garden has been reborn as a pocket of serenity — a private sanctuary of calm set within one of London’s most pristine addresses.
The layout and material palette were designed in full adherence to conservation rules, respecting every regulation associated with listed status. We are proud that the project passed planning and conservation approvals flawlessly, a testament to the depth of care and craft invested in every stage of the work.
Today, the Ovington Street townhouse stands as a rare achievement: a home that feels both entirely renewed and deeply rooted in its past — a true landmark of thoughtful restoration in the heart of central London.
